The records are sourced from a diverse population, including the Public, Professional Mariners, Electronic Charting Companies, NOAA Field Units, Recreational Boaters, Boating Organizations, Government, Foreign Hydrographic Offices, Private Companies, Educational Institutions, and internal Coast Survey personnel. Accuracy Input quality is managed by the ASSIST interface, which determines the latitude/longitude position and affected chart products based on the point a user drops on the map. Submitted error reports are internally evaluated by OCS subject matter experts and may be forwarded for document registration (DREG) and eventual product updates if applicable. Horizontal Positional Accuracy The ASSIST interface's function is to look at the point the user drops on the map to determine the latitude/longitude position and identify the affected chart products. Accuracy of those errors is based on user-input, but can be corrected for after internal review. Conceptual Consistency Conceptual consistency is addressed by the database and questionnaire, which employ field domains and ranges to ensure customers enter the correct data types. The data is stored in a Postgresql database format In 2020, NOAA released ASSIST, a new system for submitting questions and reporting nautical chart errors to NOAA's Office of Coast Survey. ASSIST has a mobile-friendly design and improved user interface that allows customers to access the system conveniently from any device.
