Areas surveyed in 2012 from the NOAA ship Pisces were mapped and classified. Backscatter and bathymetric data were acquired using the SIMRAD ME70 multibeam fisheries sonar system. This effort utilizes ME70 data to develop a habitat classification scheme relevant to SEFIS monitoring and research efforts. The original full-resolution multibeam data was used to create a bathymetry surface using a matlab exectuable developed by Tom Weber for bottom detection. The backscatter component from the raw multibeam was used to create an acoustic intensity surface in Fledermaus. Conceptual Consistency As the survey was not conducted to meet IHO standards, all users should independently analyze the dataset according to their own needs and standards to determine data usability. For this project, data was collected aboard the NOAA Ship Pisces. Multibeam data were acquired in .raw format with a hull-mounted Kongsberg SimradME70 multibeam echosounder. Line spacing for acquisition was 2.8 times the water depth. Heave, roll, pitch and heading correctors were collected using an Applanix POS/MV. Sound velocity profiles were acquired with XBTs and processed using NOAA's Velocwin V8.85 software, then applied directly to the raw data. 2012-01-01T00:00:00 .raw files were converted to .gsf files using Tom Weber's matlab code. Backscatter surfaces were generated in Fledermaus. Bathymetric layers were created in Caris. | Source Produced: Raw Multibeam Data 2012-01-01T00:00:00 Backscatter layers and derived landscape complexity metrics from bathymetry were analyzed in ENVI through PCA and segmentation routines to generate initial classes. Final classes relied heavily on backscatter intensity values to separate areas based on surficial characteristics.
