The primary data are eggs and larvae captured in ring or bongo nets (oblique tows), Calvet or pairovet nets (vertical tows), and manta nets (surface tows). Bongo Net Plankton Nets A bongo net looks like two ring nets whose frames are yoked together and allows replicate samples to be collected concurrently. Bongo nets are towed through the water at an oblique angle to sample plankton over a range of depths.
