Species persistence trends are categorized as Persistently Present, Emerged, Potentially Emerging, Potentially Disappearing, Disappeared, Sporadic - Primarily Present, and Sporadic - Primarily Absent. The data were produced for the Distribution Mapping and Analysis Portal (DisMAP) project's species persistence module. This data set covers 8 regions of the United States: Northeast, Southeast, Gulf of Mexico, West Coast, Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, Gulf of Alaska, and Hawai'i islands. These data were created as part of the DisMAP project to enable visualization and analysis of changes in fish and invertebrate distributions. The species persistence information provides valuable information on the gain, loss, or persistence of the species caught in the NOAA Fisheries bottom trawl surveys in each region over time. Information on species distributions is of paramount importance for understanding and preparing for climate-change impacts, and plays a key role in climate-ready fisheries management.
