These surveys are designed to collect information on the seasonal distribution, relative abundance, and biodiversity of fish and invertebrate species found on the US continental shelves. Over 900 species of fish and invertebrates have been identified in these surveys. These data were created as part of the DisMAP project to enable visualization and analysis of changes in fish and invertebrate distributions. This survey points layer provides information on both the locations where species are caught in the NOAA Fisheries bottom trawl surveys and the amount (i.e., biomass (weight catch per unit effort, kg/tow) of each species that was caught at each location. Information on species distributions is of paramount importance for understanding and preparing for climate-change impacts, and plays a key role in climate-ready fisheries management. The data processing workflow, as well as information on the original sources of the data, are provided in detail in the below Sources and Process Steps. The data was downloaded from the above sources as raw bottom trawl survey data.
