To facilitate analyses with marine species distribution data and comparisons between different regions, the vessel traffic data has been aggregated using a hemispheric grid that utilizes a polar azimuthal equal-area projection. Specifically, the Northern Hemisphere Lambert Azimuthal (EPSG: 6931) EASE-Grid 2.0 (Equal-Area Scalable Earth Grids) with a one kilometer (km) resolution was used to aggregate the vessel traffic data. This dataset contains polygons representing one kilometer grid cells located within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) located off the Gulf of America coast of the United States (US). The [grid_id] column found in the datasets serves as the foreign key to the aggregated vessel traffic data found in the associated csv files.
