Identifying predictors of transmission by analyzing broodstock tissues for pathogen presence would provide an important management tool for hatcheries and captive broodstock programs. This project assesses a suite of analytical methods for predictive utility by evaluating broodstock and following the infection fate of their offspring. In addition to measuring fork length (mm) & weight (g) of individual offspring, kidney tissue is analyzed for Renibacterium salmoninarum by enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), fluorescent antibody microscopy, and duplex quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Individual fish data are recorded by spreadsheet. This project is conducted by Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife in collaboration with NOAA personnel. This is a self-contained project.
