Currently the ATLAS software consists of 3 parts: Oracle XE database, Oracle Apex, Oracle Rest Data Services (ORDS) The FMA database consists of various data collected by fishery biologists while deployed on board commercial fishing vessels or at shoreside processing plants participating in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska groundfish fisheries. Data collection activities began in 1973 and they continue to date. While deployed at their assignments, observers collect data on the catch size, fishing locations, catch composition, length frequencies, age structures, marine mammal interactions, and a variety of research projects. Accuracy There are multiple layers of error checking. Initial values include database check constraints. Once transmitted extensive automated error checking occurs and near real time data confirmation and/or corrections are communicated to the observers. Bias Sampling bias due to the constraints of the physical environment is a known limitation, but does not appear to be significant over time.
