The ship conducted oceanographic research and assessments, throughout the eastern Pacific, including the U.S. West Coast, Central and South America. McArthur II was involved in studies in several of the National Marine Sanctuaries on the west coast of the United States. The 224-foot ship engaged in measurements of chemical, meteorological, and biological sampling for several large scale programs within NOAA. The new electronic hardware is combined with up to date PC processing and Windows operation. The EK60 provides facilities for accurate echo sounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The system communication is through Ethernet, which gives flexibility in the location of the EK60 system units and allows easy access to data from other instruments or stations on a vessel network. A post processing software, BI60, is also included in the EK60 system. Phantom DHD2+2 ROV 2018-06 creation Phantom DHD2+2 ROV The Phantom DHD2+2 is a 600m (2,000ft) rated ocean exploration remotely operated vehicle (ROV), and is part of NOAA's elite ROV fleet. The ROV is tethered to the ship and can conduct independent scientific investigation. The vehicle's depth, heading, and geographic position are also recorded and relayed through the cabling. The Phantom DHD2+2 has four thrusters that provide agile movement and total control. The ROV can be outfitted with multiple cameras on rigs, extra lighting, oceanographic sensors, GPS, compass, and additional instrumentation. The live video is relayed to the surface and shown on video monitors.
