Clelia Human Occupied Vehicle (HOV) 2018-05 creation Clelia Clelia, or "CL", is a 305m (1000ft) rated ocean exploration human occupied vehicle (HOV). The PC 1204 sub was built by Perry Oceanographics in 1976, and retrofitted in 1992 by its new owner and operator: Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution. Operating from the R/V Seward Johnson II, CL accommodates two scientists/observers and a pilot and travels at a maximum speed of 3 knots. A hemispheric, 3-ft-diameter window is located at the front end of the sub, eight 8-in diameter ports are equally spaced around the conning tower of the sub, and one upward view port is in the center of the overhead hatch, allowing for excellent views even in areas of low visibility. CL is equipped with two 500-watt metal halide lights, illuminating an area to near-daylight conditions for both video and still cameras mounted on the hull. It's also outfitted with active sonar, a seven-function hydraulic manipulator with a 150lb load capacity and suction sampling, clam bucket scoop, jaws, and other sampling devices. In 2010 Clelia was retired and placed on display at the Georgia Aquarium.
