The VIIRS SIC EDR provides ice classifications for ice free, new/young age, and other ice at a spatial resolution of 750 meters at nadir for both day and night over oceans poleward of 36 degrees north and 50 degrees south. The SIC algorithm requires accurate inputs from the VIIRS Sea Ice Concentration Intermediate Product (IP) and the VIIRS Cloud Mask (VCM) IP. By default, IDPS VIIRS EDRs obtained from the Comprehensive Large-Array Stewardship System (CLASS) are distributed in four aggregated 86-second granules in Hierarchical Data Format v.5 (HDF5) with metadata attributes included. The VIIRS Sea Ice Characterization (SIC) EDR can be used to map ice extent and to determine sea ice age.
