This EDR contains Near Constant Contrast (NCC) Imagery using the Day/Night Band (DNB). NCC is a pseudo-albedo, with a much smaller range of values than the DNB radiances from which it is derived; a product that is especially useful in high-contrast conditions, such as across the day-night terminator. The VIIRS NCC EDR provides imagery at a spatial resolution of 750 meters at nadir, and 1.5 kilometer at the edge of the swath (EOS), whereas the DNB spatial resolution is 750 meters across the full swath. By default, IDPS VIIRS NCC obtained from the Comprehensive Large-Array Stewardship System (CLASS) are distributed in four aggregated 86-second granules in Hierarchical Data Format v.5 (HDF5) with metadata attributes included. Imagery from VIIRS has a plethora of uses including but not limited to cloud analysis, dust storm coverage, sea ice analysis, tropical cyclone tracking, and power outage extent.
