Rainfall at the site of restoration was also monitored with a McCrometer Minimet Weather Station to analyze the relationship between sediment accumulation, native plant health, and rainfall. Native plants, vetiver, and coconut coirs were installed horizontally to an old degraded dirt road parallel to the Wahikuli stream gulch to function as Best Management Practices (BMPs). Sediment posts (2ft PVC pipes) were installed behind random BMP rows and measurements were taken every 6 months to determine sediment accumulation. These measurements were converted to tons in the “Sediment Accumulation Calc." Native plant health was also surveyed every 6 months. Asterisks mark where no data was collected, or the field is not applicable. Rainfall data was downloaded monthly. Surveys were conducted by CORAL employees and volunteers. Provide evidence that BMPs installed on old degraded dirt roads successfully trap large amounts of sediment that can be stabilized with native Hawaiian plants.
