abstract:  The goals of this field trial cruise are more operational than exploratory. Like other field trials, this cruise has primary and secondary goals and objectives. Completion of primary goals and objectives will make the cruise a success. The primary goal and objectives will be achieved in the context of mapping in the vicinity of San Francisco, CA, predominantly Cordell Bank, Gulf of the Farallones NMS and their respective proposed Expansion Areas.
purpose:  To map in the vicinity of San Francisco, CA, predominantly Cordell Bank, Gulf of the Farallones NMS and their respective proposed Expansion Areas.

description:  The EM 304 consists of a new state-of-the-art electronics and separate transmit and receive transducers in a Mills Cross configuration. It utilizes the same field-proven transducers as the EM 302, making it easy to upgrade. Care has been taken to design a highly, modular and flexible solution with compact electronics for easier and faster installation. Due to a flexible transducer design, the system can be tailored to almost any required size. The largest standard size, 0.5 x 0.5 degrees, gives the ultimate system performance in terms of resolution and range, while a smaller 4 x 4 degrees solution can be installed on any vessel of opportunity

description:  The Simrad EK60 Scientific Sounder system is a new generation fishery researchtool, based on experience from the EK500. The new electronic hardware is combined with up to date PC processing and Windows operation. The EK60 provides facilities for accurate echo sounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The system communication is through Ethernet, which gives flexibility in the location of the EK60 system units and allows easy access to data from other instruments or stations on a vessel network. A post processing software, BI60, is also included in the EK60 system.

description:  The Wind Monitor MA is an accurate and reliable wind sensor specifically designed for the rigors of the marine environment. The wind speed sensor is a four blade helicoid propeller. Unique transducer produces a pulse signal without electrical contacts or slip rings. The wind direction sensor is a durable molded vane. Vane angle is sensed by a precision potentiometer housed in a sealed chamber. All materials are carefully selected for corrosion resistance and maximum durability in the harsh marine environment. Ceramic bearings are used throughout. The instrument mounts on standard 1 inch pipe. Separate signal conditioning circuits are available to provide voltage or current signals when needed. Each is supplied in a weatherproof junction box with mounting hardware.

It detects light scattered by particles suspended in water, generating an output voltage proportional to turbidity or suspended solids. Scaling factors are used to convert the voltage readings to values representing chlorophyll concentration and turbidity expressed in Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTUs).
