Occurrence of Gray Triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) from SEAMAP Fishery-Independent Resource Surveys
Fisheries-independent catch and effort data from Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment
Program (SEAMAP) Summer and Fall Groundfish Surveys (from 1987 to 2018), Reef Fish
Surveys (from 1995 to 2017), Fall Plankton Surveys (from 1986 to 2016) are used to
map the occurrence of gray triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) in the northern Gulf of
Mexico. The final summary is represented as a point layer. The layer attributes include
the longitude (LON) and latitude (LAT) of each station, the presence or absence (OCCURRENCE)
of the species and the survey (SURVEY) during which it was taken.
The SEAMAP Fall Plankton Survey collects larval gray triggerfish across the U.S continental shelf during their spawning season. Juvenile, and some adult gray triggerfish are caught during SEAMAP Summer and Fall Shrimp/Groundfish trawl surveys. Adult gray triggerfish are primary observed/taken during SEAMAP Reef Fish surveys.
