1 Occurrence of Gray Triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) from SEAMAP Fishery-Independent Resource Surveys Fisheries-independent catch and effort data from Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program (SEAMAP) Summer and Fall Groundfish Surveys (from 1987 to 2018), Reef Fish Surveys (from 1995 to 2017), Fall Plankton Surveys (from 1986 to 2016) are used to map the occurrence of gray triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The final summary is represented as a point layer. The layer attributes include the longitude (LON) and latitude (LAT) of each station, the presence or absence (OCCURRENCE) of the species and the survey (SURVEY) during which it was taken. The SEAMAP Fall Plankton Survey collects larval gray triggerfish across the U.S continental shelf during their spawning season. Juvenile, and some adult gray triggerfish are caught during SEAMAP Summer and Fall Shrimp/Groundfish trawl surveys. Adult gray triggerfish are primary observed/taken during SEAMAP Reef Fish surveys.

Resource surveys began in the Gulf of Mexico in 1982. These surveys, which collect a variety of biological and environmental information, currently include Summer and Fall Groundfish Surveys; Winter, Spring, and Fall Plankton Surveys; a Reef Fish Survey; a Vertical Longline Survey; and an Inshore Bottom Longline Survey.

      1 Point data for each of the sampling sites for Summer and Fall Groundfish Surveys (from 1987 to 2018), Reef Fish Surveys (from 1995 to 2017), and Fall Plankton Surveys (from 1986 to 2016) were extracted from the SEAMAP database and were imported into a GIS as a vector point layer. The points were symbolized to show the sites where gray triggerfish were present (positive occurrence) or not present (no occurrence).
      1 2015-04-22T00:00:00 NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
