The Midwater Assessment and Conservation Engineering (MACE) program of NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) conducted acoustic-trawl (AT) stock assessment surveys in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) during the winter of 2012 to estimate the distribution and abundance of walleye pollock (Theraga chalcogramma). The vessel departed Kodiak, Alaska on 13 February, conducted EK60 echosounder system calibration on 14 February, then proceeded to the start of the first survey (Sanak Trough, 15 February). The vessel then proceeded to the Shumagin Islands and conducted surveys at Shumagin Trough, Stepovak Bay, Renshaw Point, Unga Strait, and West Nagai Strait, 16-19 February. The vessel conducted multibeam echosounder surveys of select locations and deployed ARGO drifters 19-22 February and returned to Kodiak on 22 February. The survey was conducted aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson, a 64 meter stern trawler equipped with acoustic and oceanographic instrumentation. purpose: Acoustic-trawl (AT) surveys of walleye pollock (Theraga chalcogramma) in the Shumagin Islands and Sanak Trough areas of the Gulf of Alaska, 13-22 February 2012 status: (MD_ProgressCode) completed pointOfContact: (CI_ResponsibleParty) organisationName: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information contactInfo: (CI_Contact) address: (CI_Address) electronicMailAddress: ncei.info@noaa.gov onlineResource: (CI_OnlineResource) linkage: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/contact name: NCEI Contact Information description: Information for contacts at NCEI. function: (CI_OnLineFunctionCode) information role: (CI_RoleCode) pointOfContact pointOfContact: (CI_ResponsibleParty) organisationName: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information positionName: Water Column Sonar Data Manager contactInfo: (CI_Contact) phone: (CI_Telephone) voice: (303) 497-4742 address: (CI_Address) deliveryPoint: 325 Broadway, Mail Code E/NE42 city: Boulder administrativeArea: CO postalCode: 80305-3328 country: USA electronicMailAddress: wcd.info@noaa.gov role: (CI_RoleCode) pointOfContact resourceMaintenance: (MD_MaintenanceInformation) maintenanceAndUpdateFrequency: (MD_MaintenanceFrequencyCode) notPlanned descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Earth Science > Oceans > Ocean Acoustics > Acoustic Scattering keyword: Earth Science > Oceans > Aquatic Sciences > Fisheries keyword: Earth Science > Oceans > Ocean Acoustics keyword: Earth Science > Biosphere > Ecosystems > Marine Ecosystems > Pelagic keyword: Earth Science > Biosphere > Ecosystems > Marine Ecosystems keyword: Earth Science > Biosphere > Ecosystems > Marine Ecosystems > Benthic keyword: Earth Science > Biosphere > Ecosystems > Aquatic Ecosystems keyword: Earth Science > Oceans > Bathymetry/Seafloor Topography > Bathymetry keyword: Earth Science > Oceans > Bathymetry/Seafloor Topography > Seafloor Topography type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) theme thesaurusName: (CI_Citation) title: Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) Science Keywords date: (CI_Date) date: 2020-01-09 dateType: (CI_DateTypeCode) publication edition: 9.1 citedResponsibleParty: (CI_ResponsibleParty) organisationName: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Earth Science Data and Information System contactInfo: (CI_Contact) onlineResource: (CI_OnlineResource) linkage: https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/find-data/idn/gcmd-keywords name: Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) Keywords description: The information provided on this page seeks to define how the GCMD Keywords are structured, used and accessed. The EK60 transducers installed on the Oscar Dyson are mounted on a deployable centerboard. The transducer draft settings in the EK60 software are nominally correct when the centerboard is fully extended (draft correction setting is 9.15 meters below the surface). When the centerboard is in the retracted position (transducers approximately flush with the vessel's keel), the transducers are nominally 6.1 meters below the surface. The EK60 system was calibrated on 14 February 2012 in Ikatan Bay, Alaska Peninsula, Alaska. return to top acquisitionInformation: (MI_AcquisitionInformation) instrument: (MI_Instrument) citation: (CI_Citation) title: Simrad EK60 Echosounder date: (inapplicable) identifier: (MD_Identifier) code: EK60 citedResponsibleParty: (CI_ResponsibleParty) organisationName: Simrad - Kongsberg Maritime AS contactInfo: (CI_Contact) phone: (CI_Telephone) voice: +47 3303 4000 (Norway) facsimile: +47 3304 2987 (Norway) address: (CI_Address) deliveryPoint: P.O.
