Purpose | The objective of this project is to update NOAA NOS Estuarine Bathymetry Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), gridded representations of bathymetry for various estuaries in the United States, that were initially created in 1998 by the now defunct NOS Special Projects Office. Although these data still represent the ?best available? gridded depictions of bathymetry in some locations, they are primarily based on antiquated historical data and do not include many modern survey data, in particular, high resolution BAG format hydrographic data. NCEI will identify more recent NOS hydrographic survey data if available and update existing DEMs compliant with NOAA Data Directives and meeting the requirements for Data Management, Discoverability, Accessibility, Documentation, Readability, and Data Preservation and Stewardship as per the Big Earth Data Initiative (BEDI). |
