Water Level Data from Pacific Tsunami Warning Center Tide Gauges in Hawaii
|
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) of the National Weather Service (NWS), an
organizational element of NOAA, operates and maintains a network of approximately
12 coastal tide gauge stations as part of the NOAA Tsunami Program. The data collected
are used to meet tsunami warning responsibilities. Included in this water level collection
are preliminary 10-second water levels from 12 stations in Hawaii (1611408: Nawiliwili,
1611691: Hanalei, 1612352: Makapu'u, 1612482: Waianae, 1612647: Haleiwa, 1614465:
Kaumalapau, 1615629: Lahaina, 1617001: Kapoho, 1617180: Honokohau, 1617720: Mahu Kona,
1617725: Laupahoehoe, 1618431: Milolii,and 1618578: Honuapo).

Station Id |
Unique 7-digit ID given to the Station where instrument was deployed. |

STND Station Datum |
A fixed base elevation at a tide station to which all water level measurements are
referred. The datum is unique to each station and is established at a lower elevation
than the water is ever expected to reach. It is referenced to the primary bench mark
at the station and is held constant regardless of changes to the water level gauge
or tide staff. The datum of tabulation is most often at the zero of the first tide
staff installed. |

Latitude is measured from the equator, with positive values going north and negative
values going south. |

Longitude |
Longitude is measured from the Prime Meridian (which is the longitude that runs through
Greenwich, England), with positive values going east and negative values going west. |

The Coordinated Universal Time stamp at which the water level was recorded. It is
in the format HH24MMSSZ |

The calendar date on which the data was collected. It is in the format YYYYMMDD |
