The ecological reserves differ widely in physical features and biology, as well as in the socio-economic characteristics of nearby communities. General research topics have been established by the DFG, such as marine reserves as a resource management tool, fish community and population studies, and harvest resilience. The UC Sea Grant was selected in June of 1996 to administer this program.
