Count Component Title Abstract
1 CO-OPS Water Level Data from the Coastal Tide Gauge and Great Lake Water Level Network of the United States and US Territories The Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) of the National Ocean Service (NOS), an organizational element of NOAA, operates and maintains a network of approximately 200 long-term National Water Level Observation Network (NWLON) stations as part of the National Water Level Program (NWLP) for the United States coasts and in the Great Lakes. CO-OPS also installs and operates short-term water level stations in support of a variety of programs including hydrographic surveys, marine boundary determination, tidal predictions, habitat restoration, dredging, climate change, and long-term sea level rise studies. The data collected and predictions derived are used to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally sound maritime commerce, environmental assessment, and hazard mitigation. CO-OPS provides a set of water level products required by NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) to meet flood and tsunami warning responsibilities. Included in this water level collection are preliminary 1-minute, preliminary 6-minute, verified 6-minute, verified hourly, verified highs and lows, verified daily means, and verified monthly mean water levels.

1 Station: The geographic location at which water level observations are conducted. Also, the facilities used to make those observations. These may include a tide house, tide (water level) gauge, tide staff, and tidal bench marks. See primary control tide station, secondary control tide station, tertiary tide station, and subordinate tide station.
1 Data Collection Platform (DCP): A microprocessor based system that collects data from sensors, processes the data, stores the data in random access memory (RAM), and provides communication links for the retrieval or transmission of the data.

1 Station Id Unique 7-digit ID given to the Station where instrument was deployed.
1 STND Station Datum A fixed base elevation at a tide station to which all water level measurements are referred. The datum is unique to each station and is established at a lower elevation than the water is ever expected to reach. It is referenced to the primary bench mark at the station and is held constant regardless of changes to the water level gauge or tide staff. The datum of tabulation is most often at the zero of the first tide staff installed. For Geat Lakes and St. Lawerence River stations, Station Datum is equivalent to IGLD.
1 Latitude Latitude is measured from the equator, with positive values going north and negative values going south.
1 Longitude Longitude is measured from the Prime Meridian (which is the longitude that runs through Greenwich, England), with positive values going east and negative values going west.
1 Time The Coordinated Universal Time stamp at which the water level was recorded. It is in the format HH24MMSSZ
1 Date The calendar date on which the data was collected. It is in the format YYYYMMDD
1 Water Level The water level value as collected and disseminated by the DCP.

1 The United States National Water Level Network (NWLON) was established in the 19th Century to ensure the Nation?s nautical charts, shoreline maps, and elevations relative to homes, levees, and other coastal infrastructure were accurately referenced to sea level. In support of this mission, NOAA?s Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services and its predecessors have determined sea level for the United States since the mid 19th Century.
