The 40-foot Sleeping Bear is a heavily built aluminum catamaran and DGPS-equipped
automated hydrographic survey vessel with an environment-controlled cabin capable of
transporting up to six passengers. The vessel is powered by twin Volvo D6 340 Aquatic DPI
engines, providing a combined 680 horsepower, and is supported by a 6-kilowatt Northern
Lights generator. It features dual station controls with an EVC 2.0 vessel control system,
including joystick control, autopilot, and dynamic positioning capabilities. The Sleeping Bear is
outfitted with a hydraulic A-frame to support towfish and coring operations and carries 55
gallons of fresh water. Combined with onboard sleeping quarters, a kitchen, and a restroom, the
vessel is well suited for longer-duration projects and operations located further from shore. The
vessel has a cruising speed of 24 knots, a maximum speed of 33 knots, and a fuel capacity of
400 gallons.
