      The Hydrochart II multibeam bathymetric sonar system was built by General Instrument Corp. as the successor to the Bathymetric Swath Survey System (BSSS). The Hydrochart II operates at 36 kHz and can be used to measure depths up to 1000 meters. The system uses a cross-fan transducer array to form 17 beams, 9 for port and 9 for starboard, with overlapping near-nadir beams. The swath coverage of the Hydrochart II is 2.5 times the water depth or 105 degrees.
