      The SeaBeam or SeaBeam Classic Multibeam Echosounder was the first commercial multibeam system. SeaBeam was created in 1977 and operated at 12 kHz. The system produced a 90-degree swath using 16 beams per ping. The SeaBeam system was replaced in the late 1980's by the SeaBeam 2000.
