Built in 1983, this expedition vessel was originally used for research and scientific exploration until 2013 when it was refurbished as a passenger vessel. With an 8,000 nautical mile range and a cruising speed of 13.5 knots delivered by two diesel engines, the Professor Khromov is able to sustain continuous operation for up to 40 days at a time. The vessel almost exclusively operates in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, while accommodating up to 66 people (15 officers, 28 scientists, and 23 other crew) in a comfortable, air conditioned environment. The ship includes a stern crane and over 5000m of cable which support ROV, HOV, and other oceanographic instrument deployment. Professor Khromov also has over 26m2 of wet laboratories and over 173m2 of dry laboratories, which further enhance its ability to perform comprehensive oceanographic research. This ship was used during every joint Russia-United States research expedition. </gco:CharacterString> </gmi:description> <gmi:sponsor xlink:href="https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/docucomp/08D95C427FB128479945893256DADE37" xlink:title="NOAA/OAR/OER - Ocean Exploration and Research (POC)"/> </gmi:MI_Platform>
