Instruments: AVHRR, TOVS (HIRS/2, MSU, SSU), SEM and SARSAT (SARR, SARP). Operational dates: June 20, 1983-June 12, 1984 and July 1, 1985-October 31, 1985. The first operational satellite in the Advanced TIROS-N series. The spacecraft was rectangular shaped (166" long by 74" high) and powered by a 191" by 94" solar array. The satellite was Earth oriented, three-axis stabilized and weighed approximately 2000 pounds. It was placed in a near circular, (450nm) polar orbit.
