description:  NOAA-15 (K) - Launch: May 13, 1998. Instruments: AVHRR/3, TOVS (HIRS/3, AMSU-A1, AMSU-A2, AMSU-B), SEM/2, SARSAT (SARR, SARP/2), Argos/DCS/2 Operational dates: December 15, 1998 to Present. Operational Status: AM Secondary. NOAA-15 was placed in a near circular, (450nm) polar orbit. It is the seventh operational satellite in the Advanced TIROS-N series. It is the first in the series to support dedicated microwave instruments for the generation of temperature, moisture and surface hydrological products in cloudy regions where visible and infrared instruments have reduced capabilities. The spacecraft was rectangular shaped (4.2m long by 1.88m high) and powered by a 6.14m by 2.73m solar array. The satellite was Earth oriented, three-axis stabilized and weighed approximately 2200 kg.
