R/V Neil Armstrong (AGOR-27) Armstrong (AR) The R/V Neil Armstrong supports advanced oceanographic research in tropical and temperate oceans around the world. It also serves the academic community's ongoing need for a general-purpose ship based on the East Coast of the United States. The pivotal role that the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans plays in Earth’s climate results in an increase in efforts to observe these areas, as well new efforts to study North Atlantic ecosystems and their sustainability. R/V Neil Armstrong is be uniquely equipped and positioned to enable scientists from around the world to reveal new details about this critical part of the global ocean.
